Tour Overview
Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country on the South China Sea known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communist-era leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers.Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences. At its heart is the chaotic Old Quarter, where the narrow streets are roughly arranged by trade. There are many little temples, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse, plus Äồng Xuân Market, selling household goods and street food.
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City
Arrive Ho Chi Minh City also known as Saigon and transfer to the Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City
Attractions: Museums,Ben Tanh Market
After breakfast, we proceed for a full day tour of Ho Chi Minh. Venture in to the Chinese quarter at Cholon, the city's Chinatown district. Discover the markets and shops of the area, and The Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda – dedicated to the goddess of the Sea, learn traditional Vietnamese medicine at FITO museum, and browse the amazing array of goods at Ben Tanh Market. In the afternoon, visit the War Remnants or History Museum and the former Presidential Palace for a glimpse into Vietnamese history before ending with an exploration of the city‟s French-influenced colonial architecture – the Old Saigon Post office, Dong Khoj Street, Continental hotel, Opera house and city hall. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta – Ho Chi Minh City
Attractions: Dong Hoa Hiep Island,Cottage Factory
After breakfast, Proceed to the delta town of Cai Be which is 2.5hrs drive from City. Board your a boat for cruise of Cai Be floating market where Traders work the river and some have been living on these waters for generations. After visiting the market continue to a cottage factory where pop-rice, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat for the cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island, along the way admire the scenery and the daily life of the local villagers.Transfer to Ho Chi Minh City by boat and then road. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Ho Chi Minh City – Danang – Hoi An
After breakfast, we transfer you to the Tan Son Nhat Airport for the short flight to the central port city of Danang. On arrival in Danang, transfer to Hoi An - a major Asian trading port during the 17th and 18th centuries, whose architecture and relaxed lifestyles has changed little over the years. Take a walking tour of the ancient town center to visit the former merchants homes, the 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge and the colorful market. Rest of the day free at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Hoi An – Hue
Attractions: Cham museum,Imperial Citadel,Thien Mu Pagoda - The Perfume River
This morning after breakfast, proceed to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. The scenic route passes through Danang visit Cham museum which contains the finest collection of Cham sculptures in the world before climbing over the Pass of Ocean Clouds and dropping down to the wonderfully photogenic fishing village of Lang Co. Arrive Hue visit the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 & 1945. After proceed to visit Thien Mu Pagoda overlooking the perfume river; the 21- meter tall tower is the centerpiece of the pagoda and represents seven reincarnations of Buddha. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 6: Hue – Hanoi
Attractions: Dong Ba Market,Tinh Tam Lake,Khai Dinh’s Tomb
After breakfast, Start your visit to the city's vibrant Dong Ba Market to see it's abundance of fresh produce. Afterwards proceed to take cyclo through the old city to Tinh Tam Lake where the Emperors used to come to relax, full of lotus flowers in summer there are many local style coffee shops around the lake. Proceed to visit the mausoleum of former Emperor Minh Mang, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. After visit Khai Dinh’s Tomb which is traditional Vietnamese in design with European touch making it unique. Afternoon, we transfer you to the airport for your short flight to Hanoi, the modern day capital of Vietnam. On arrival at Hanoi, transfer to the hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Hanoi.
Day 7: Hanoi – Halong Bay
Attractions: Red River Delta
After breakfast transfer from Hanoi for an overnight boat trip on Halong Bay. Journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and observe everyday life of Vietnamese villagers as they work the rice fields, take pigs to the market on bicycles and plough the fields with their water buffaloes. Arrive Halong City late morning and board your traditional wooden junk or a classic colonial era replica steamship, The Emeraude, for the overnight journey into the Bay. Cruise by rock formations with such names as Sail, Dog and Dinh Huong (incense pot). Towards the end of the day set anchor for the night. Overnight at Ha long Bay.
Day 8: Halong - Hanoi
Attractions: Ethnology Museum,Water Puppet show
Return sail to Halong City. Enjoy a wholesome brunch as your boat weaves through strangely shaped limestone rock formations. Upon disembarkation meet representative and transfer back to Hanoi. As an optional extra, visit one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam But Thap on the way back to Hanoi. In Hanoi, in the afternoon, visit the fascinating Ethnology Museum (closed Mondays), a research centre and public museum exhibiting the ethnic groups of Vietnam. Next, visit Hanoi's Old Quarter, also known as the 36 streets. Take a walking tour through charming Hang Be Market and around Hoan Kiem Lake. This bustling area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It's a great place to explore with plenty of photo opportunities all around you. Finish the day with a Water Puppet show. This is a uniquely north Vietnamese art form depicting scenes from rural life and episodes of national history. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 9: Hanoi
Attractions: Temple of Literature,The One Pillar Pagoda,Taoist temple of Quan Thanh
Morning after breakfasts proceed for the Temple of Literature. In 1076, Vietnam's first university Quoc Tu Giam was established within a temple to educate Vietnam's royalty, mandarins and members of the elite. The university functioned for an incredible 700 years and its gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam's past. Visit The One Pillar Pagoda, founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049, next. This structure is one of Vietnam's most iconic temples. Close by is the mausoleum of the historic father figure of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, and the former presidents house on stilts where he lived from 1958 to 1969. His former home illustrates the modesty of this Vietnamese revolutionary. (Viewed from outside; closed Mon and Fri and from Oct-Nov). Continue to picturesque West Lake and the sixth century Tran Quoc Buddhist Pagoda. From here transfer (or stroll along the lakeside) 700 meters to the nearby Taoist temple of Quan Thanh dedicated to Tran Vu, one of the principal deities in Taoism. At leisure for shopping until your transfer to Noi Bai Airport for onward flight.
