From the spiritual heavyweight of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, historic kingdom of Mandalay and the ancient temples of Bagan to the picturesque Inle Lake, no one shows you Myanmar like Monks and Monkeys Travels.

Day 1: Arrival & Sightseeing around Yangon

Mingalar Bar, you will be welcomed by our Guide at Airport and transferred to hotel.

Start your Sightseeing of Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon. City tour, with as highlights our visit to the the massive reclining Buddha at Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda; Kandawgyi Park; the royal floating barge named Karaweik Palace; and the world-famous golden stupa, Shwedagon Pagoda, whose golden dome rises 98 meters above its base and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold.

Day 2: Yangon-Bagan

After breakfast we fly to Bagan for a comprehensive tour of this beautiful city, one of Myanmar’s premier historical and cultural centres, home to more than 2,000 temples and pagodas ! Our tour includes shrines such as Ananda, Htilominlo, Thatbyinnyu, Dhammayangyi, Sulamani, and Shwezigon Pagoda, plus secular sights such as Nyaung U market and traditional workshops.

Day 3: Bagan – Mt Popa - Mandalay

Today we rise early to enjoy the sunrise from the upper terrace of one of the temples. Check out hotel and drive to Mandalay. On the way we will stop at a local palm tree plantation, a typical Local Village andMount Popa, an extinct volcano with spectacular views and shrines associated with Myanmar Nats spirits, said to be born here, making this volcano a major centre of pilgrimage. Arrive Mandalay in the evening and transfer to hotel.

Day 4: Mandalay : Amarapura, Ava and Sagaing

Today full day tour of deserted cities around Mandalay: Amarapura, Ava, & Sagaing.

Start the sightseeing with the visit to Sagaing citywhich has over 600 Buddhist monasteries where monks and nuns study and meditate. We will visit pagodas such as Swan Oo Pon Nya Shin and U Min Thone Sae. Stop at the local market, Silverware cottage industry, clay pot making and Nunnery to learn the daily life of Buddhist nuns.

Next visit is Ava, a grand imperial capital left to fall into magnificent ruin.The city is now a rural area where livestock graze and farmers raise crops amidst the remains of pagodas, palace towers, monasteries, and massive city walls that once formed the outline of a seated lion.

The day comes to a close with a visit to Amarapura, known as the City of Immortality. Enjoy sunset at U Bein, the world’s longest teak bridge stretching close to 1200 meters across Taungthaman Lake.

Day 5: Mandalay & Mingun

After breakfast, transfer to the jetty for a pleasant boat ride upriver to Mingun. Upon arrival, explore the ruins of the vast Mingun Pagoda. Continue to the beautiful Hsinbyume Paya and the Mingun Bell, weighting 87 tons and being the world’s largest intact bronze bell. Sail back to Mandalay.

Continue visit to the Mandalay Palace, Shwenandaw Monastery– noted for its exquisite woodcarvings, gold leaf beating workshop and Kuthodaw Pagoda – known for containing the world’s largest book. Conclude the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to watch the sunset and the panoramic view of the city.

Day 6: Mandalay-Heho - Pindaya -Inle

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Heho. Upon arrival at Heho, proceed by road to Pindaya. The road to Pindaya cuts across one of the most densely farmed areas in Myanmar – at first glance, the patchwork of fields and hedges could almost be a landscape from central Europe or middle America. Visit Pindaya Limestone cave, unique for the about nine thousand Buddha images placed there by pilgrims over many centuries. Then a short stop at over 250 years old Banyan trees. Drive to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway of Inle Lake and transfer to Hotel.

Day 7: Inle Lake & Indein Sightseeing

Full-day tour of beautiful Inle Lake, the “Asian Venice,” featuring stilt houses and villages, island-bound Buddhist temples, floating gardens, fishermen using ancient techniques such as leg-rowing, and, on the shores, workshops of traditional artisans, e.g. weavers and cigar-makers. Also included are visits to sanctuaries such as Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, Kayan Long neck women houseand Nga Phe Chaung Monastery, and to villages like Indein, a settlement of the Pa-Oh tribe, famous for its hilltop covered with 1,054 stupas constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries!

Stay overnight on Inle Lake.

  • Journey time : Excursion on Inle Lake ~ 7 hr (Boat)

Day 8: Inle - Yangon

After early breakfast, explore the morning market around Inle Lake offers a good opportunity to meet many different local tribes. Then transfer by road to Heho for your onward flight to Yangon. The remainder of the day is at leisure with a car and guide available for further exploration or last minute shopping at historic Bogyoke (Scott) Market.
