Along its Sarawak River waterfront are food vendors, shophouses selling handicrafts and an esplanade with views of 19th-century landmarks: The Astana, former palace of the White Rajahs, and Fort Margherita, built to thwart pirates.Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in the northern part of the island of Borneo. Often referred to as KK, it’s a coastal city partly surrounded by rainforest. It's known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and waterfront Kota Kinabalu City Mosque. It is also a gateway to Kinabalu National Park, the home of 4,095m-high Mount Kinabalu.Sandakan is a city in the Malaysian state of Sabah, on the northeast coast of Borneo.

Day 1: Arrive Kuching

Attractions: Sarawak Museum,Fort Margherita,Kuching Waterfront,Tua Pek Kong Temple,Cat Museum

Arrive into Kuching from Kuala Lumpur (direct flight). Transfer and check in at your hotel Kuching is also known as the ‘Cat City’. Explore on own at leisure – Sarawak Museum- the oldest museum in Borneo, Fort Margherita – situated along the Sarawak river and a hilltop fortress, Kuching Waterfront – popular for its historic buildings, hotels and dining outlets, it is surrounded by sightseeing spots like the Old Courthouse, Sarawak Tourism Complex, Square Tower and Chinese History Museum. Visit the Tua Pek Kong Temple – a ornate Chinese temple, oldest in Sarawak. Explore the DBKU Orchid Garden – spread over 15 acres, this beautiful garden showcases 75,000 plants, see the exquisite Normah Orchid – the State flower of Sarawak See the ‘Cat Museum’ – the world’s first cat museum. Shopping – the city is known for its range of crafts, beads, baskets, woven fabrics, pottery and more. Visit the ‘Main Bazaar’ – rows of shops with souvenir items, most popular is the Pua Kumbu textile made into cushion covers, bags. Bamboo mats are also popular and so is the pottery. Day 2: Kuching

Attractions: Sarawak Cultural Village,Jungle Trekking,Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the ‘Sarawak Cultural Village’ – 32 kms – Known as the ‘Living Museum’, its an award winning attraction, it showcases the cultural diversity of the ethnic groups. Visit the traditional dwellings of the native communities and get a glimpse of their lifestyle. Don’t miss the elaborate cultural performance held twice daily. OR – Visit ‘Padawan’ – 1 hour away – Popular attractions – Annah Rais Longhouse – about 60 kms from Kuching, the Longhouse offers a chance to experience the traditional lifestyle of the local folk, watch cultural performances, try your hand at playing the musical instruments, learn how to prepare local delicacies, go trekking and enjoy the outdoors. The trip has to be pre arranged. There is also a facility of home stay here. Enjoy bamboo rafting and raft through the beautiful tropical rainforest, the surroundings of the Longhouse is full of exotic nature places, offering guided jungle trekking to see the beautiful flora and fauna, explore the interior jungles through the crystal clear, cold running water streams and waterfalls, there are plenty of beautiful and stunning waterfalls where you can swim and relax, also you can soak in the natural Annah Rais hot springs, the water is crystal clear and this is the ultimate ‘Jungle Spa’ OR - Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre – 24 kms from Kuching - the centre was established to rehabilitate orangutans that were injured, orphaned or kept illegally before they are re introduced to the surrounding jungles, the best time to visit is during the feeding sessions – (0900 a.m. – 1000 a.m. & 0300 p.m. – 0330 p.m.) when the orangutans return for a meal. This is the biggest orangutan rehabilitation centre in Sarawak. The young orangutans are trained how to survive in the wild. Overnight at Kuching hotel.

Day 3: Kuching

Attractions: Bako National Park,Waterfalls

Breakfast at the hotel. Today visit the ‘Bako National Park’ – Since 1957, it offers a perfect introduction to Sarawak forests and wildlife. It has a wide range of vegetation – swamp forests and more and it is possible to see almost every type of vegetation here. The park has a number of well marked trails offering interesting walks ranging from short pleasant strolls to full day hikes. Visitors to Bako are almost guaranteed to see wildlife. Long tailed macaque monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, wild boar, monitor lizards etc. are seen. There is every chance of seeing the rare and unusual Proboscis monkeys on trails particularly if you go late afternoon. Bako is home to approx 275 rare Proboscis monkeys found only in Borneo. Also one can see jungle streams, waterfalls, panoramic shoreline etc. The best time to see wildlife is just after dawn and just before dusk. Overnight at Kuching hotel.

Day 4: Kuching - Kota Kinabalu

Attractions: Mosque,Mari Mari Cultural Village

Today take flight from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu which is Sabah’s main airport and the second largest airport in Malaysia. It’s a coastal city partly surrounded by rainforest. Its known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and waterfront. Arrive at Kota Kinbalu and check in at hotel. Visit the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque which is a stunning example of contemporary Islamic architecture and is the largest mosque in Kota Kinabalu. It can accommodate 9000 – 12000 worshippers at a time. Then 25 minutes from Kota Kinabalu visit the ‘Mari Mari Cultural Village’ – it is a vibrant destination that gives an insight into Sabah’s diverse cultural heritage. Nestled within a remote jungle setting the village showcases 5 different ethnic communities, enjoy activities like blowpipe demonstrations, fire making, bamboo cooking, native dancing and try out the local food. Evening once can do some shopping in the city, a variety of crafts and souvenirs are available in Sabah – precious pearls, bags, baskets, beads, accessories and much more. To experience an authentic shopping head to KK Handicraft Market – one place that avid collectors should not miss, stretching for miles the streets are filled with pareos, sarongs, the famous Sabah pearls, traditional musical instruments, bags, fabrics and more. Overnight at Kota Kinabalu hotel.

Day 5: Kota Kinabalu

Attractions: Tunku Abdul Rahman Park,Islands

Breakfast at the hotel. Today visit the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park – a 20 minutes spped boat ride from Kota Kinabalu. Encompassing the islands of Gaya, Manukan, Mamutik, Sapi and Sulug, the park is a favourite among sun seekers, snorkellimg, diving and under water photography, the waters are home to and abundance of aquatic life and colourful corals. Overnight at Kota Kinabalu hotel.

Day 6: Kota Kinabalu– Sandakan – Turtle Islands

Attractions: Turtle Islands Park

Morning fly from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. Arrive at Sandakan and directly proceed to Turtle Islands Park – accessible by an hour long boat ride from Sandakan. Lying in the Sulu Sea, Turtle Islands Park is a cluster of 3 islands, it is a safe haven for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles. Here one can see the marine turtles as they swim ashore to lay eggs. There is a turtle hatchery, accommodation and other facilities. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 7: Turtle Islands – Sandakan

Attractions: Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre,Kinabatangan River Cruise

Breakfast at the hotel.Proceed to visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre– this famous sanctuary is dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of orangutans, one can get a chance to observe these primates up close in their natural habitat. See the young and orphaned orangutans being fed by rangers (feeding time at 10 a.m. & 3 p.m.) Chalets are provided for overnight visitors Then enjoy a Kinabatangan River Cruise and see the Proboscis monkeys. Then proceed back to Sandakan Overnight at hotel in Sandakan.

Day 8: Sandakan – Kota Kinabalu

Check out and proceed back to Kota Kinabalu by flight. Arrive at Kota Kinbalu and check in again at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at Kota Kinabalu hotel.

Day 9: Kota Kinbalu - Kuala Lumpur

Check out and fly back from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur. Stay back in Kuala Lumpur OR take a connecting flight to onward country or back home.
