Tour Overview
The Caribbean is a region of The Americas that consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands and the surrounding coasts. Port of Spain, on Trinidad’s northwest coast, is the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago. It’s known for its huge Carnival, with calypso and Caribbean soca music. Bordering the expansive Queen’s Park Savannah, the Royal Botanic Gardens displays plants from all over the world. The gardens also encompass Emperor Valley Zoo.
Day 1: Arrive Port of Spain
Arrive at Trinidad – Port of Spain Airport. You will be met and transferred by a local representative to your hotel on Seat-In-Coach. Arrive at the hotel and check in. Rest of the day at leisure to explore this true Caribbean island offering travelers an unique experience from shopping, restaurants and bars, adventure, beaches, bird watching, bio diversity and lots more. Trinidad offers lots of adventure with rainforest hiking trails, limestone caves, hidden waterfalls, bird watching and turtle watching, cycling through the countryside or kayaking past wildlife filled mangrove forests. Or enjoy the swaying palm trees on sun-kissed beaches. Overnight at hotel.
Day 2: Port of Spain – City Highlights & Chaguaramas Museum
Attractions: Magnificent Seven
After breakfast, proceed on a city tour of Port of Spain - Visit Trinidad's highlights on this comprehensive, half-day guided tour. You'll pass by the lighthouse, the striking Parliament building known as the Red House as well as the 'Magnificent Seven' a row of imposing colonial houses originally built at the turn of the century as private residences. Continuing around the Queens Park Savannah, you'll make a brief stop at the tropical Botanical Gardens, a cool shady enclave of exotic trees and tropical flowers. On arrival in Chaguaramas, we drive through the interior passing old United States Naval Installations, a Golf Course, Shooting Range and several Marinas which some times has approximately 3,000 – 4,000 Yachts all toll. While in Chaguaramas we make our official stop at the Chaguaramas Military & Aviation Museum, where you will be given a guided 35-40 minutes tour of this institution that houses 500 years of Trinidad's History along with photos, maps, static displays and countless artifacts. Later you will be transferred back to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3: Port of Spain – Asa Wright Nature Centre
Attractions: Asa Wright Nature Centre
After breakfast, visit the world-famous Asa Wright Nature Centre, a 200-acre bird sanctuary and conservation Centre, located deep in the hills of the Northern Range. Following approx 1 1/2 hours drive to the nature Centre, you will be met by your knowledgeable guide for an informative nature walk through the lush tropical forest with its exotic trees and colourful flowers. While actual sightings are not guaranteed, you'll want to keep a watchful eye out for exotic birds, such as toucans, manikins and hummingbirds as well as graceful butterflies that live in this unique environment.
Note: Please wear long pants and comfortable, low-heeled walking shoes. This is an active excursion and only suited for those in good physical condition. Sunblock and insect repellent are recommended. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4: Port of Spain – At Leisure
After breakfast, today is full day at leisure to enjoy your hotel facilities or simply enjoy on the beach. Visit the beaches in the north and north east which ahs some of the most picturesque villages and seaside spots and some of the best spots for surfing and swimming. Then you can also go shopping as there are many options to shop here. There are small streets selling souveniers and curios as well as big shopping malls. Try some of the different cuisines that the restaurants have to offer - If anything, you will have a difficult time deciding what to eat next. Choose from upscale fine dining haunts to intimate family-run establishments where Trini warmth and hospitality will overwhelm you. You can also do turtle watching from March – August in Trinidad. You can see the endangered leatherback turtle, the largest of all the surviving turtle species and you can see these on the beaches. Churches, temples, kingdom halls, faith centres and mosques stand side by side in the Trinidad landscape. One of the most impressive structures is the 85-foot statue of the Hindu god Hanuman, which is reputed to be the tallest of its kind outside India. Towering above the Dattatreya Yoga Centre and Mandir at Orange Field Road, Carapachaima, it has become a landmark in Carapachaima.Overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Port of Spain – Caroni Nature Sanctuary
Attractions: Caroni Nature Sanctuary
After breakfast, proceed on a tour of The Caroni Nature Sanctuary - The Caroni Nature Sanctuary is a mangrove swamp covering an area of 40 square miles at Trinidad's North West Coast. After the 1/2hour(approx) drive from Port of Spain, board a large flat-bottomed boat and slowly travel along the beautiful peaceful waterways and lagoons admiring the bizarre beauty of the landscape and a variety of birds and other wildlife. The most astounding among these birds is the Scarlet Ibis, a large bright red bird feeding and nesting here. This tour is world renowned among ornithologists as it offers the observer an opportunity to see this rare protected bird with very little effort. As an added attraction you have an option of also visiting a 60ft high view tower (approx. 100 steps) from which you experience a fantastic panoramic view of the swamp and environs including the Northern Range - imagine placing yourself just above the clouds. Or just remain seated in the boats, while your guide keeps you informed. The almost surrealistic beauty of this famous nature resort will amaze you. After this relaxing boat ride, return to the main landing and transfer back to your hotel in Port of Spain. Overnight at hotel.
Day 6: Port of Spain – Scenic Drive & Beach Trip
Attractions: Maracas Beach
After breakfast, proceed to Maracas Beach, the most popular beach on the island where you can relax and unwind taking a swim in the soothing waters. However, before reaching Maracas take a stop at the Lookout where you will get a spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. A snack area and changing facilities are available. Overnight at hotel.
Day 7: Port of Spain – Pitch Lake & Down South tour including the Temple
Attractions: The Legendary Pitch Lake,La Brea Museum
After breakfast, proceed to visit one of the world's natural wonders and one of our country's most mysterious and unique attractions - The Legendary Pitch Lake at La Brea. Situated in Trinidad's Deep Industrial South, you can go there and actually walk on the Lake's surface. The Pitch Lake, about 90 minutes from Port of Spain, is an extraordinary natural phenomenon. It looks like an enormous car park after a rain shower, but is actually one of only three natural asphalt lakes in the world (the other two are in Venezuela and Los Angeles). The La Brea Museum will provide a visitor with a wealth of information. Here, there well be a golden opportunity to discover all there is to know about the fascinating substance called 'asphalt'. On the return journey, passing through the second largest city in Trinidad, San Fernando, stop at the Wild fowl Trust which is situated on a 60 acre site and here you will have a chance of seeing birds distinct and many other species of wild life. Duration: Approximately 5 1/2 hours.
Day 8: Day 08 Depart Port of Spain
After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
