Chausat Yogini

Welcome to Chausat Yogini

Behind Shiv Sagar, in the southwest, lie the remains of the curious temple of Chausat Yogini ("Sixty Four Yogis"). Dating from the 9th century, the Chasut Yogini consists of 35 small granite sanctuaries clustered around the quadrilateral; originally there were 64, and in the center was the temple of the goddess. There are only fourteen other temples known - all located in northern India - dedicated to these angry and bloodthirsty servants of the goddess Kali; historians suggest that this temple was used by an esoteric tantric group. About 1 km further west, lie the ruins of Lalguan Mahadev, a small temple dedicated to Shiva.
