Allahabad was founded in 1583 by Akbar the Great on the site of Prayag , which occupies an honorable place among the holy cities of Hinduism. According to legend, it was here, at the confluence of the sacred rivers of the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati, made the first sacrifice to Brahma.
